Located close to the Trifid nebula, the Lagoon nebula is vast star-forming region. Under dark skies it is even visible with naked eye (with telescope, of course). The only other star-nursery visible to the human eye being the Orion nebula. It is located roughly 4,100 to 5,200 light-years away in the constellation Sagittarius.
